Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario (ICAO)
Established under
The Chartered Accountants Act, 1956
as a self-regulatory professional body, the Institute is led by a governing Council which sets its strategic priorities, and overseas the attainment of these priorities and the management of the Institute's operating activities. A self-regulatory governing body, the ICAO works in partnership with Canada's other institutes of chartered accountants to provide national standards and programs that are used as examples around the world. The ICAO protects the public interest through the CA profession's high standards of qualification and rigorous enforcement of the profession's rules of professional conduct. In addition, members in public practice are subject to mandatory practice inspection and professional liability insurance programs.
Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA)
The CICA, together with the provincial and territorial institutes of chartered accountants, represents a membership of over 65,000 professional accountants and 8,500 students. The CICA conducts research into current business issues and sets accounting and auditing standards for business, not-for-profit organizations and government. It issues guidance on control and governance, publishes professional literature, develops education programs and represents the CA profession nationally and internationally.
